After 13 days of fighting, India won the war against Pakistan on December 16, 1971. General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, the Pakistani forces’ commander, surrendered to the joint forces of the Indian Army and Bangladesh’s Mukti Bahini, along with 93,000 Pakistani troops.
It was also the largest military surrender following World War II.
